Purpose Statement: In my own words I am explaining that what “The Medium is the Message” means to me.

“The Medium is the Message” was a book that was created a long time ago, the author was thinking about things that would unfold decades later. From what I believe it means the medium through which we communicate is also part of the message itself. The way in which we exchange information can be just as important as the information itself. In the age that we live in now, we have many different mediums to exchange and access information. Each of these mediums has its own internal codes and process, as a collective culture, we all have certain definitions of what each medium means. So when we use these mediums whatever the information is we also can assume that there is another message as well within the medium itself.

A medium that helps me best describe this concept would be Twitter. Twitter itself is a place for many different opinions to come together into one spot as most social media sites do. What’s specific about Twitter is that it has the reputation of being a place where normal speech morality goes out the door. On the site, people can voice out their honest opinions for better or worse. Many arguments break out on the daily there and it is exposed for the rest of the world to see. When politicians relay important information on Twitter it loses part of its validity because of the reputation that Twitter has. It also makes people lose their credibility based on what they post and where they post it. That is why the medium is so important when it comes to exchanging or sharing information. It matters where you choose to send information as the medium itself is a message. In this new generation of technology we keep getting introduced to new mediums, it is important to educate ourselves on the messages of those that we choose to use.
